Group Meeting:  The question for today was "Do you know how to plant wheat?"  As part of our bread study, the children will be planting wheat seeds.   This will be one of the small groups for this week.  We will be learning about some of the ingredients in bread.

Small Groups:  The activities for this week and schedule for today are listed below.
Activity #1 (Red Group)  The children played a memory game with some of the books that I have read throughout the year.  We reviewed the titles, authors, and story lines.
Activity #2 (Yellow Group)  The children planted wheat seeds.  They scooped dirt into small cups, sprinkled wheat seeds that had been soaking in water for 24 hours, and covered them lightly.  We will put them in a warm place to germinate.
Activity #3 (Green Group)  The children experimented with growing yeast.  The teacher put water and sugar into two small water bottles.  She added yeast to one bottle.  Then, balloons were put over the mouths of the bottles.  The children observed and recorded the results on paper.

Story:  Last week, we began the story Everybody Bakes Bread by Norah Dooley.   Carrie is visiting her neighbors to see if anyone has a three handled rolling pin.  She notices that at every house, someone is baking a type of bread.  Ask your child to tell you if she finds the three handled rolling pin.

Large Group:  The children learned how to knead bread dough by practicing on play dough.  We rolled the play dough into  a ball, pressed down with the heels of our hands and folded the dough.  We repeated this to mix the ingredients together.

Letter Learning:  The letter for today was Uu.

Snacks:  The snack person for the morning class was Benjamin.  He brought Goldfish, cheese sticks, and juice.  The snack person for the afternoon was Brody.  He brought bagels, cream cheese, and juice.  Thank you, Benjamin and Brody!
