Group Meeting: Our question for today was " Do you know how to make bread?" Most of the children answered no. So, we decided to make bread.
Small Groups: Instead of small groups, the children gathered around my bread machine. I told them how bread is typically made, and explained that the bread machine could do all of those things as well. I showed them the ingredients and put them in the pan. The bread machine has a little window at the top so the children could see the paddle spinning around and mixing the dough. By the end of the class, the bread was ready for us to eat. Everyone enjoyed a little bite.
Story: The story today was "Sun Bread" by Elisa Kleven. In this story, the weather is cold and snowy. Everyone has to stay inside. The baker decides to make a sun bread to help cheer everyone. When the sun bread comes out of the oven, everyone has a bite. It is so good that the sun comes out and wants a bite as well. The baker promises to make sun bread every day so that the sun will always shine.
Large Group: We listened to the song "Sammy" by Hap Palmer. Sammy's father has asked him to go to the store to by bread. Sammy doesn't want to walk, he wants to pretend that he is an animal. So he pretends to fly like a bird, swim like a fish, crawl like a bug, and hop like bunny. As we listened to the song, we acted like the animals, too.
Letter Learning: The letter for today was Ss.
Snacks: The morning class snack person was Tula. She brought Kix cereal, strawberries, and milk. The afternoon snack person was Shelby. She brought Pops cereal and milk. Thank you, Tula and Shelby!
