Group Meeting: Last week, we learned about Mat Man. Today, during Group Meeting, I read the story Mat Man Shapes. Mat Man's body is typically a blue rectangle, but what would he look like if his body was a green triangle? With this book, we could explore making Mat Man with different shapes. In the story area, we have placed Mat Man pieces and shapes for the children to use.
Small Groups: I am listing the activities for this week. If your child can't remember what group he or she is in, please ask. I'd be happy to tell you.
Activity #1: (Red Group) The children completed a picture of Mat Man using crayons. They also drew a picture of Mat Man to put on the bulletin board in the hallway. These will be on display during our family night next week.
Activity #2: (Yellow Group) The children were given the letters of their name to sort and glue onto an envelope. We will use these when we start to sign in every day.
Activity #3: The children were given a paper on which pictures of Mat Man were printed. They had to follow the directions given by the teacher to color the appropriate shape on Mat Man.
Story: I read one more story about Mat Man. It was Mat Man On the Go by Jan Olsen. Mat Man is always moving. In this story, he skateboards, rides a snowmobile, and flies in a rocket to the moon along with many other things. Ask your child to tell you their favorite thing that Mat Man does to keep busy.
Large Group: The children learned the song "Pick Up a Crayon" which is part of the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. Then they practiced coloring stars and fireflies.
We also conducted our first fire drill today. No loud noises, just lining up and going outside.
Snacks: The morning snack person was Isaac. He brought Teddy Grahams and milk. The snack person in the afternoon was Emmy. She brought cheese sticks, animal crackers, and juice. Thank you!
