Group Meeting: We started our day with a shape matching game on the Promethean board. Then, we danced to "If You're a Kid: Animal Edition" by Harry Kindergarten Music.
Small Groups: The children were introduced to the Block Area, Music Center, and Reading Area. There are so many things to do during preschool. We want to be sure that the children are aware of all that they can do.
Story: The story for today was Quinito, Day and Night by Ina Compiano. Quinito is a boy whose day is full of opposites. His brother is tall. His sister is short. His parents have long hair. He and his brother have short hair. Quinito tells us all about his day and his family in this book.
Large Group: Zoey and Max were back today to tell the children about remembering to raise their hands when wanting a turn to talk. When we follow this rule, everyone gets a turn to hear what the children want to say.
Snacks: The children had Teddy Grahams and juice. We practiced scooping, passing the bowl, and pouring our drinks.
No School on Monday. Enjoy the Labor Day Holiday!

A great first day!
There are so many things for a preschooler to learn. When to sit and when to stand. How to line up and how to wait a turn. During the next few weeks, we will slowly learn how school works so that we will all have fun and learn.
Group Meeting: The first thing that we did today was play a game on the Promethean board in which we had to sort colored stars. Then we danced to "If You're a Kid" by Harry Kindergarten Music.
Small Groups: The children learned about the Housekeeping Area, the Tabletop Area, and the Art table. The teachers showed the children various things that are available for them to use.
Story: The story for today was Little Yellow and Little Blue by Leo Lionni. Little Yellow and Little Blue are friends and neighbors. One day Little Blue is searching for Little Yellow. When he finds him, he is so happy that he hugs him tight. He hugs him so tight that they both turn green. When they return home, their parents do not recognize them. Ask your child to tell you what happens next.
Large Group: The children were introduced to my two friends (puppets) Zoey and Max. Zoey and Max help me teach the children social skills. Today, Zoey and Max helped us learn about how to sit at circle and story time.
Snack Time: Our snack was granola bars and apple juice.

It's time for school!
Tomorrow will be our Welcome to School Day. I have a great story picked out to read to you. I also have a fun science experiment to show you. I hope that you have your backpack all ready to go. This morning, a cute little chipmunk was sitting outside of the door. I'm wondering if he wants to come to school, too. He will have to stay outside. Maybe we will see him in the Outdoor Classroom. The oak tree in our yard has a lot of acorns this year, so he might stop by for a snack.
I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

I love books!
One thing that you will learn about me is that I like to read. I like books of all kinds; books about pretend places, about real people, and books that teach me new things. I love to visit the library and book store to see what is new. My favorite place to read is outside. When my children were little, I would read to them every night before bedtime. I hope that you will enjoy reading books with me at school. I have some of my favorite books picked out to read to you. I hope that you will tell me what kind of books that you like.

My Family
Today, I'd like to tell you a little about myself and my family. I live out in the country just north of DeWitt, Iowa. It takes me about 25 minutes to get to school everyday. I live with my husband. He is a carpenter. I have a son, Rayce, and a daughter, Renee. I have a cat named Marvin and four ducks. The cat lives in the house with me, but the ducks live outside in their own little house. My favorite things to do when I'm not at preschool are spend time with my family, read books, and play the piano.
I am looking forward to getting to know you and your family. I'm wondering if you have any pets. I would like to know what you like to do when you are not at school. Once school starts, we will have lots of time to talk about what you like to do.

Hello
I am so glad that you are checking out my blog page. Until school starts, I will be posting some information about what I am doing to get ready for the new school year. I'll post something new every Monday. After school starts, I will be using this page to let your parents know about what we are doing at school every day.
Today, I am at the preschool opening boxes. Over the summer, I have been ordering new toys and school supplies. The UPS man just stopped in to drop off a new box. It's always exciting to see what is inside. So far, I've unpacked new construction trucks, art materials, a new easel for outside, a new discovery table and a few other things.
I am looking forward to using these new things with you at school. I hope you are too!
